I think we left off last time exploring this game's version of a debug room, by attaining the rooftops of poor Christopher's ransacked smith, and ducking behind the chimney. However, there are plenty of goodies to snap up west and south of Trinsic, instead! A couple of visual cues and reminders for those of you that haven't played the game in a decade? I still can't believe how much of this is coming back to me! Now, had I decided to follow the main story line (a thoroughly optional endeavor, I assure you) I would be traveling north, through the swamps that spill into the slummy village of Paws, and eventually into fair Britannia in all her splendor. That said, I have completed my investigations of the Trinsic murder and have managed to secure the mayor's goodwill, and the ability to leave the otherwise locked-down town! Also, playing in 40-60 minute spurts during my morning and evening commutes kind of limits my progress as well.

Some choice words on what's coming in the next version (a truly analog nub, finally)? I'll quote the choice bits, but hit up the link for the full update, including WHY this port was difficult to manage (memory-wise) and why it'll eventually crash if you let it run long enough.Īs for me, dealing with a digital mouse is definitely putting a damper on the experience (so far, the only TRULY ruinous flaw in an altogether amazing achievement), and it's slowing my progress down substantially. Now, an update from the creators of this port. Getting away with theft still feels a bit too easy, but all in all, it seems quite close to my recollections of how Ultima VII used to play! Because at my last exposure to Exult, the theft-murder-guard mechanic and combat all felt half-assed and very wrong. Apparently a couple of years of fine-tuning have done the trick. I realize that the creators of Exult could not incorporate all of U7's various behaviors and mechanics, and had to essentially recreate them within the Exult engine.

I last tried it out a few years ago and discovered that the relatively minor interface, audio, and graphical improvements by no means made up for what I felt at the time were very poorly "guestimated" game rules. I'm assuming that idiosyncrasies of the PSP port aside, that ExultPSP is a fair indicator of what the traditional PC version of Exult has evolved into. I do feel the need to express my surprise over how Exult has developed over the years. So as far as playable-stability is concerned, it's not much of an issue. My guess is that ExultPSP needs more time than that before it begins to die and crash out. I tend to play in 1 hour uninterrupted stretches.

BTW, regarding ExultPSP's tendency to run out of memory and crash, I haven't experienced it yet. So only 3 more pictures and a few brief words. Not a huge update to my earlier impressions, really. I can't believe GAF is letting this thread (and the huge buckets of awesome powering it) die a horrible death.
